And there is no better way to appreciate the extra sunshine than to head to the great outdoors and experience the beauty that nature has to offer.

There are many outside activities in the Grantsville-area to keep you and your family entertained, but one fast-growing hobby you may not have heard of is geocaching. WHAT IS GEOCACHING? 

Geocaching is the recreational activity of hunting for and finding hidden objects called geocaches. Players use the free Geocaching app or a GPS device to find geocaches hidden in urban and rural locations and share their experiences online with other participants. Keep in mind there are millions of geocaches hidden around the world just waiting for discovery! 

Geocaching is a fun way to connect with nature and find new destinations that you may have otherwise never seen. Many participants use this activity to spend time with family or friends or track how many geocaches they can find, while others enjoy playing to visit different states or countries. 


HOW TO START GEOCACHING

The only requirements to go geocaching are a free membership and a GPS device or a GPS-enabled mobile device. A GPS device is a device that can determine your approximate location. You can also use it to help you travel to a different destination.

If you have these items, you are almost ready to begin! Now, follow these simple steps to begin geocaching: 

  • Visit Hide & Seek a Cache.
  • Enter your zip code.
  • Choose any geocache from the list.
  • Enter its coordinates into your GPS device.
  • Use your GPS device to help find the hidden geocache.
  • Sign the logbook
  • Make sure to return the geocache to its original location.
  • Share your story and photos online.
