KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Casselman River Bridge State Park is open from 8:00 am through sunset. Leashed pets are allowed to visit the park.

CASSELMAN RIVER BRIDGE STATE PARK

Casselman River Bridge State Park is a historical center in the Grantsville region. The park is famous for picnicking, fly fishing and photography. Erected in 1813, the 80-foot wide bridge was titled the longest single-span stone arch bridge in the United States. The bridge’s significance included transportation on the National Road from 1813 to 1933.

The bridge became a busy center of commerce and transportation, with stagecoaches, wagons, horseback riders, and other foot travelers crossing the bridge. Although the bridge no longer carries vehicular traffic, local pedestrians and tourists continue to enjoy the picturesque state park.

SAY CHEESE

Just below the River Bridge lies the Spruce Forest Artisan Village, a compilation of historic buildings moved to the site from various locations across Western Maryland. Next to the village lies Penn Alps Restaurant (c. 1818) and Stanton’s Mil (c. 1797). The gristmill is in operation to this day.

Home to an array of wildlife, historic sites, and natural wildflowers, you’ll want to be sure to bring your camera when visiting the park.

GONE FISHIN’

Also known as the Little Youghiogheny River, the Casselman River is a fifty-six-mile-long tributary passing through parts of Western Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Fishing has become a featured activity in the park and is a great way to spend a day of vacation while in the area. Flyfish for rainbow trout, and look for adult trout, almost five pounds, stocked by The Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

INDULGE IN HOMEMADE GOODS

The park is perfect for picnicking with family and friends and a hotspot for lunch on a warm spring day. The park is also a great place to refuel for a nice hike or bird watch with your favorite nature book.

With the sights and smells throughout Grantsville, stop by the Casselman Bakery for a batch of freshly baked bread, homemade desserts, and a drink to wash it all down.
