Christmas Events and Activities Happening Around Grantsville, Maryland

Just like that, it's already the most wonderful time of year again! To celebrate this special season, we've compiled a list of some holiday events and activities taking place near Grantsville. Check them out below!


CHRISTMAS IN THE VILLAGE

Occurring on Friday, December 3rd, through Saturday, December 4th, from 12:00 - 8:00 PM, kick off the holiday season at the annual Christmas in the Village celebration. Christmas in the Village has become a much-anticipated tradition for so many visitors. While at the Village, you can expect to enjoy live music at the Village Church, activities in the Village buildings, hot chocolate and cider and luminaries throughout the Village paths and over the Casselman River Bridge. In addition to the activities in the Village, guest artists will be stationed in the Great Room above Penn Alps. And make sure to check out the tree lighting ceremony on Friday, December 3rd at 7:00 PM. You won't want to miss it!


RIDE THE POLAR EXPRESS™

Give to a good cause and enjoy some fun at the same time! The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad (WMSR) is a nonprofit that is offering rides on The Polar Express. This event has become a holiday tradition for those in the area, with over 10,000 passengers alone in 2019! The WMSR considers 2021 extraordinary and wants to ensure that this Allegany County holiday tradition continues, with departures from both Cumberland and Frostburg to the North Pole! JOY OF CHRISTMAS LIGHT SHOW

The Joy of Christmas Light Show, located at the Oakland Community Center, runs from November 26th through January 1st. It begins each night at dusk and offers something for all ages. There are approximately 30,000 lights choreographed to music, and the program runs in a one-hour loop. You can park and watch from your car or stand outside to view the light show in all its majesty. 


VISIT WOODLAKE TREE FARM

Are you looking for fresh-cut trees or Christmas decor? Look no further than Woodlake Tree Farm, located in Oakland, Maryland! Woodlake Tree Farm provides quality dug trees for both wholesale and retail customers. Choose and cut Christmas trees are available during the holiday season. The farm also includes a charming barn store which is now open through the Christmas season. And while you're there, you can't forget about their Christmas Shop. All year long, they work on gathering and finding unique, one-of-a-kind items to bring to their customers.


A GREAT SMALL TOWN CHRISTMAS 

A Great Small Town Christmas is underway now through December 16th in Oakland, Maryland, just a short drive from the Deep Creek Lake area. At a Great Small Town Christmas, you can find something for every member of the family! OUTDOOR RECREATION

Garrett County averages over 100 inches of snowfall per year, so there are no limits on the outdoor recreation options to be had in our winter wonderland! Beginner, intermediate and expert level snowsport enthusiasts can enjoy a wide range of activities, including snowboarding, skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, snow tubing and a thrilling mountain coaster at Wisp. Wisp is located in McHenry, Maryland, near Deep Creek Lake and offers 172 acres of ski terrain and 33 slopes for nonstop entertainment.
