THE CASSELMAN RIVER BRIDGE STATE PARK
Casselman River Bridge State Park comprises four acres and is located in eastern Grantsville on Route 40. At Casselman River Bridge State Park, families can enjoy activities like picnics, fly fishing and photography. When it was built in 1813, it was the longest single-span stone arch bridge in the United States and served as an essential link on the National Road until 1933. Although the bridge no longer carries vehicular traffic, it is open to pedestrians and is accessible for disabled visitors.
NEW GERMANY STATE PARK
Dubbed by visitors as a “best-kept secret,” New Germany State Park is tucked between Big Savage Mountain to the east and the eastern Continental Divide along Meadow Mountain to the west. Visitors to New Germany State Park can enjoy a first-class skiing experience with trails for all skill ranges during the winter months. Beginners can practice on a flat, open “turnpike,” while more experienced skiers can test their skills on winding hillside trails. Visitors can rent cross-country skis and snowshoes at the lake house warming hut, and the snack bar offers hot and cold drinks, snacks, trail maps and a selection of gift and souvenir items.
SPRUCE FOREST ARTISAN VILLAGE
Spruce Forest Artisan Village serves a unique purpose in the Allegheny region. In the time of General Braddock, it was once known as Little Crossings. Today, this venue has become a place for artists to showcase their designs, genres and media specific to the area. Artisans work in various media, including bird carving, basket making, hand-loom weaving and hand-thrown pottery. Visitors to Spruce Forest Artisan Village have the chance to purchase these items and interact with the artisans in their studios.
HILL TOP FRUIT MARKET AND CANDYLAND
Hill Top Fruit Market is located in Grantsville at the intersections of Route 40 and 219. It was established in 1958 by Chester and Shirley McFarland as a produce market. Today, Hill Top Fruit Market still provides its customers with the freshest fruits and vegetables. They also offer a large selection of nuts, dried fruits, jams and jellies, honey, buckwheat flour, trail and snack mixes and pure maple syrup.
Hill Top Fruit Market is a must-stop for the kids in your family! Also known as Candyland USA, Hill Top Fruit Market offers over 900 varieties of candy! Customers can even purchase candy making supplies. They also offer a large selection of sugar-free items like hard/chewy candies, cookies and snacks. If you are looking for candy for the holidays, they carry the largest selection of Easter, Halloween and Christmas candy in the area!
