What Foods Will You See At The Casselman?

Fall is right around the corner! What better way to enjoy the crisp air than with warm, comforting food and freshly baked sweet treats? Continue reading to check out some of our favorite, delicious, home-cooked dishes to enjoy during this cozy season!

OUR RICH HISTORY

Tucked away in the mountains of Garrett County in western Maryland, The Casselman is a historic inn, motel, and restaurant that has been around since 1842. The Casselman was one of the numerous inns along the National Trail to serve the stagecoaches, covered wagons, drivers, and riders. In our 180 years of history, we have been called Drover’s Inn, Farmer’s Hotel, Dorsey’s Hotel, and most notably, The Casselman. To learn a little more about our inn and restaurant history, check out our blog, Welcome to The Casselman Inn and Restaurant.

OUR RESTAURANT AND BAKERY

We invite you to come and eat in our restaurant’s original dining room with its wooden floor and historic decor or in the “new” dining room, which was added in 1973 and comfortably seats 125 people. The cuisine of our restaurant is simple, country food with a variety of favorite recipes reminiscent of the owners' Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish backgrounds.

Our bakers have been whipping up a delicious variety of desserts for decades -- including some baked with recipes from when the bakery initially opened its doors! Our bakery has a window where you can watch the bakers make the bread. We still make each loaf by hand, which ties into our restaurant’s heritage.

POPULAR FOODS AND TREATS

Hot Turkey Sandwich

Our hot turkey sandwich is one of our most loved and popular items. The turkey is slow-roasted, covered in gravy, and served on homemade bread. The sandwich is made complete with a side of hot masked potatoes and coleslaw.

Hot Roast Beef Sandwich

Like its relative, the hot turkey sandwich, the hot roast beef sandwich is another Casselman favorite. Also served on our homemade bread, our pot roast is tender, slow-cooked, and drenched in a rich, homemade gravy. The sandwich is filled with a side of hot masked potatoes and coleslaw.

The Reuben

Our Reuben is sure not to disappoint! Stacked high with corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and 1,000 island dressing and sandwiched in between two buttery, grilled slices of marble rye bread, this Reuben will satisfy your sandwich cravings. If you visit on a day where we serve fresh-cut french fries, you’re certainly in for a home run.

Creamy Chicken and Dumplings

Even though it is served as a year-round special, our creamy chicken and dumplings especially hit the spot during the chilly fall and winter months. The dumplings are served in a warm, creamy broth loaded with vegetables and succulent chicken pieces.

All-You-Can-Eat Soup & Salad Bar

Served Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Friday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, our soup and salad bar is one of our customer’s favorites due to its variety. The vegetable, Maryland crab, and chicken noodle soups are all favorites and loved by many. You can also create your own salad too.

Saturday Morning Breakfast Buffet

Served Saturday mornings from 7:00 am until 11:00 am, guests come far and wide to dine in our delicious breakfast buffet, packed with all American favorite breakfast items.

Homemade Bread and Apple Butter

Every time you dine with us, expect to be served our warm, homemade bread and homemade apple butter, served in a squeeze bottle for your convenience! We’ve been making our bread and apple butter for decades, and if you haven’t tried it yet, you’re surely missing out! You can also give this “Casselman Iconic Duo” as a gift and have it shipped right to the recipient’s door, as we have it listed on our website to purchase. And if you’re an apple butter lover, we encourage you to read our blog, A Casselman Staple, Homemade Apple Butter.

Colossal Cinnamon Roll

One of the most popular breakfast items is the colossal cinnamon roll. Baked fresh daily in our bakery below the restaurant, this delicious, giant cinnamon roll is served hot and is topped with maple or vanilla frosting.
