Read on to learn about five benefits of staying at The Casselman Inn in Grantsville, Maryland.

STAY IN A HISTORIC LANDMARK

Solomon Sterner built The Casselman in the 19th century to serve travelers along the busy National Road. Each room in the original three-story Federal brick house contained a fireplace which was the only heat source for warmth and cooking. The bricks were handmade on the land nearby, and much of the woodwork was from hand-hewn timbers and hand-planed boards. One of the most beautiful features is the cherry handrail ascending to the third floor.

In our 180 years of history, we have been called Drover’s Inn, Farmer’s Hotel, Dorsey’s Hotel, and most notably, The Casselman. The Casselman continues today as a second-generation family-owned business. We are proud to be a historic landmark in western Maryland.

RELAX COMFORTABLY WITH ALL OF THE AMENITIES OF HOME

Guests visiting The Casselman can choose to stay at our historic inn or motel. Both accommodation options have clean, comfortable rooms and offer modern amenities so our guests can experience all the comforts of home during their stay with us.

The Casselman Inn features the two-room Dorsey Suite with its newly decorated bedroom and sitting room areas. The classic beauty of the antique furnishings makes this suite exquisite. It offers an oversized double bed and comfortable sofa, which can open into an additional bed and a private bath with a clawfoot tub and a soaking tub. Modern amenities include free WiFi, cable television, telephone, air conditioning and more. There is also a convenient, small kitchenette with an eating area located down the hallway. In addition to the suite, two other bedrooms with private baths are also available. If you would like to learn more about the Dorsey Suite, check out our blog, The Historic Dorsey Suite

The most recent addition to The Casselman is The Casselman Motel. It boasts 40 rooms and is located just behind and to the left of the restaurant. In keeping with the original historic inn and restaurant, some furniture was hand-crafted by local community members and the Miller family. Our comfortable motel rooms feature a private bath, television, coffee maker, microwave, desk, free WiFi and more. We offer handicap-accessible rooms as well. Keep in mind, some of our motel rooms are freshly remodeled and feature quality, solid wood furniture from nearby craftspeople. If you would like to reserve one of these rooms, make sure to request a reservation asking for a newly remodeled room.

The Casselman Inn and The Casselman Motel are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

ENJOY DELICIOUS HOME-COOKED FOOD AND FRESHLY-BAKED GOODS

Part of the excitement of visiting a new destination is trying local food. And you cannot visit Grantsville without taking time to enjoy the country cooking at The Casselman Restaurant and sampling the freshly-baked goods from The Casselman Inn Bakery. Both our restaurant and bakery are on-site, which makes it convenient to experience a delicious, home-cooked meal or indulge with some yummy treats — and trust us, you will be glad you did!

The cuisine of The Casselman Inn Restaurant is simple, country food with a variety of favorite recipes reminiscent of the Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish background of the owners. Our restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our menu features many customer-favorites like Casselman buckwheat cakes, a colossal cinnamon roll, homestyle meatloaf, baked ham and chicken breast over stuffing and more.

If you stay at The Casselman Inn, each night includes a voucher for a complimentary breakfast in our restaurant’s dining room the following morning, excluding Sunday mornings when our restaurant is closed. These vouchers are not included for motel guests, but you are still welcome to join us! If the restaurant is closed, there are items available in our breakfast nook.

The Casselman Inn Bakery is located downstairs. Our bakers spend each morning preparing delicious homemade goodies, including our homemade bread, which we still make by hand. Our bakery even has a window where you can watch the bakers make the bread! You will also find delicious jams, jellies and our famous apple butter at our bakery. If you would like to learn more about our apple butter, check out our blog, A Casselman Staple: Homemade Apple Butter.
